Schools and Education

  • I support a re-evaluation of the MCAS and high stakes testing. Standardized testing helps to define a set curriculum, maintain teacher accountability and help prevent students from slipping through the cracks. However, I do not believe that high stakes testing should be the exclusive means of evaluating educators and assessing school districts. Frequently, it results in a “teaching to the test” mentality which can limit creative thinking and learning, which is the point of a well rounded education. A more balanced approach is needed.
  • I support continued increase of AP offerings and strengthening STEM opportunities. These classes provide our students the opportunity to reach their full potential, and learn tangible skills that will make them top candidates when applying to colleges and searching for jobs.
  • We must also prioritize special needs funding in general and Individual Education Plans (IEPs) in particular. Our schools exist to allow each child to unlock their unique potential and we must make certain that no child is overlooked in that process.

Public Safety and Opioids

  • We need to begin having an open and honest discussion surrounding addiction and remove the stigma attached to the label “addict.” It’s a disease not a moral failing and it needs to be treated as such. I will help drive and lead this conversation at the local level.
  • We need to have an official Narcan policy in our high schools. Our first responders have been carrying Narcan for years but we have no official policy for narcan use at the high school or middle school levels. I will lead an initiative- and try and secure funding- to get Narcan on school premises.
  • We need to further strengthen all state prescription monitoring programs, thereby thwarting “doctor shopping” by those suffering from addiction. I will support legislation that does this.
  • We need to establish a substance abuse prevention awareness week to better educate and train our teachers and parents on the telltale signs of addiction and drug seeking behavior. I will work with community leaders and stakeholders to help start this.

Quality of Life and Community Center

  • Leading an initiative to get a teen center built in Milton. We have a wonderful Senior Center but no place for our young people to go. I will lead an effort to try and get this sponsored, financed and constructed.
  • Our tax exempt non-profit institutions across the District need to give more back- in the form of quantifiable dollars- to the communities they inhabit. Currently, it appears to be an inequitable bargain. Private schools and hospitals make our towns stronger, to be certain, but when those institutions rely on town resources (Fire & Police Departments/ Water & Sewer), with only modest contributions to town coffers, residents bear the cost. This needs to change.
  • Our roads are in disrepair, our parks and ballfields need improvement, and our street and walkway lights need to be fully functional. In short- we need to Drive Dollars to this District! As our Representative, I’ll build on existing State House and government agency relationships to help fight for and secure the funding that we need to showcase our strengths.[1]
