Tony Gurley
Tony Gurley was a 2012 Republican candidate for Lieutenant Governor of North Carolina in the 2012 election.[1] He finished second in the May 8th primary election, but the first place finisher, Dan Forest, did not capture more than 40% of the vote. Forest and Gurley faced off in a primary runoff election on July 17th, where Forest captured the majority of the vote to win the Republican nomination. Forest will face Linda Coleman (D) in the general election.[2]
Biography
A native of Western North Carolina, Gurley attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, earning a B.S. in pharmacy and an M.A. in pharmacy administration. He owned Gurley's Pharmacy in Durham and Blue Ridge Pharmacy in Raleigh from 1984 to 1999. That year, he sole his pharmacies and enrolled in law school at North Carolina Central University.[3]
While in law school, Gurley won election to the Wake County Board of Commissioners in 2002. He subsequently won re-election in 2006 and 2010, and has served as both vice-chairman and chairman. He opened a second Gurley's Pharmacy in Durham in 2005, and now owns Holly Park Pharmacy in Raleigh and Office Meds Management, Inc. in Raleigh.[3]

Gurley sought the Republican nomination for Lieutenant Governor of North Carolina in 2012. He finished second in the May 8th primary election and advanced to a primary runoff election, but fell to Dan Forest, who will face Linda Coleman (D) in the general election.[4]

In the 1990s, Gurley owned and raced stock cars at speedways in North Carolina and Virginia. He and his wife, Robin, have two grown children and are members of the North Raleigh Presbyterian Church.[3]
