Tony T. Smith participated in Ballotpedia's candidate survey on May 3, 2018. The survey questions appear in bold, and Tony T. Smith's responses follow below.[2]
What would be your top three priorities, if elected?
“ | 1) Campaign Finance Reform |
” |
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about? Why?
“ | Myself and my family have a long history of supporting LGBTQ rights and advocating for those with HIV/AIDS which was spurred by the passing of my uncle Peter from HIV/AIDS in the 1980's. I am also passionate about ending the influence of money in politics because that will be the only way to obtain a true representative democracy. Finally, I am committed to passing a living wage for folks working full-time because I have lived paycheck-to-paycheck and know the frustration of working hard yet never getting ahead.Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; invalid names, e.g. too many[4]

Smith answered the question, "What is your political philosophy?" on Ballotpedia's biographical information submission form. Below is his response:
“ | I believe in our representative democracy. Unfortunately, the role money plays in our politics prevents us from having a true democratic republic. That is why I practice what I preach by voluntarily capping contributions to our campaign so that I can maintain the independent judgment we should want in our legislators. Second, I believe we need bold policies to confront challenges such as climate change, wage stagnation, increased automation, and protecting our privacy.[4] | ” |
