An effort to recall Mayor Tony Vauss in Irvington, New Jersey, from his position was launched in May 2015.[1] As of December 2015, this recall effort appeared to be abandoned and Ballotpedia discontinued active coverage. Please contact us if new developments occur with this recall effort.
Recall supporters
Vauss was targeted for recall due increased property taxes, rising crime and murder rates, and allegedly forcing an employee to have sex with him in an office.[1]
Path to the ballot
Supporters initially had their recall attempt denied by clerk Harold Wiener on May 26, 2015, who claimed the grounds for recall were "not based on facts." On June 26, 2015, Judge Christine Farrington ordered Wiener to certify the notice of intent and allow the recall to move forward. The town submitted an appeal to Farrington, but she denied it on August 7.[2] Supporters needed to submit a sample petition before being approved for circulation. After approval, there would have been a 160-day window to collect signatures equal to 25 percent of the town's registered voters.[1]
