Tony Wood (Arkansas)
Tony Wood is the former Arkansas Commissioner of Education, serving in the position from July 1, 2014, to July 25, 2015.[1] Wood was appointed to succeed former-Arkansas Commissioner Tom W. Kimbrell by the State Board of Education in June 2014 after being nominated for the post in May by Governor Mike Beebe.[2]
Biography
Wood started his education career as a science teacher before transitioning into a 14-year stint as principal and superintendent with Kensett School District. He later served as superintendent of Searcy Public School District for 18 years. Wood joined the Arkansas Department of Education in 2010 as a deputy commissioner.[2]

Commissioner of Education (2014-2015)
Wood took office as Arkansas Commissioner of Education on July 1, 2014. He was first recommended for the post by Gov. Beebe in May 2014, and he was approved for the appointment by the State Board of Education on June 12. As the commissioner served at the pleasure of the governor, Wood was not subject to reappointment.[2] He left office on July 25, 2015.[1]
