I am a Detroit native, raised here in the city with my 11 siblings. My story could have ended very differently. Like many young men, I struggled in high school, found myself running with a crowd that was leading me in the wrong direction. I was lucky to have a mentor that supported me, helped me finish high school and go on to college. I graduated from Oakwood University and went on to get a Master’s Degree from University of Michigan. But Detroit and the people here have always had my heart. I started a non-profit mentoring program that works with young men in Detroit, I wanted to “stand in the gap” for others as someone else did for me. Through my non-profit, Caught Up, I’ve mentored hundreds of young men, many of which have gone on to graduate from college and create a life for themselves that is productive and gives back to our community. Professionally, I worked for Mayor Duggan’s office as District Manager for Detroit District 4, serving the people and helping to solve problems. I currently serve as Dean of Students at Western International High School. These experiences are key to my ability to be an effective public servant to the people of this district. I know what the issues are that people care most about and I have the relationships within the city to make positive changes that will help people in their everyday lives.
I am seeking this office because I am a problem solver, a community member, a neighbor, who is part of this community so I know what needs to happen to make our lives better, our community better. Voters should support me because I am dedicated to being the kind of public servant that is truly dedicated to service. I can and will be an effective city councilman for District 4. I want my office to be a one-stop-shop for community members to come where we help them find solutions to problems and we proactively address systemic issues that will improve the quality of life for all our residents. I have served this community as deputy district manager where I addressed concerns and solved issues. I want to serve this community as a council member where I make decisions on a broader scale. I have the experience I’m passionate and ready to serve.
