Ballot question

The question on the ballot appeared as:[1]

Should the Town of Red Cliff enact an ordinance making it unlawful for: (1) any person to operate any marijuana establishment in the town; (2) any person to consume or grow marijuana in the town in any place not used for residential purposes; (3) any person to use, display, purchase, transport, possess or transfer more than one ounce of marijuana in the town; (4) any person to possess, grow, process or transport more than six marijuana plants in the town; (5) any person under 21 years of age to use, display, purchase, transport, possess or transfer marijuana, marijuana products or marijuana accessories in the town; (6) any person over 21 years of age to use, display, purchase, transport, possess or transfer marijuana, marijuana products or marijuana accessories in the town for any reason other than personal use; and (7) any person over 21 years of age to assist any person under 21 years of age in obtaining marijuana, marijuana products or marijuana accessories in the town and subjecting violation of these prohibitions to a fine not exceeding $1,000 and/or imprisonment not exceeding one year?[2]

Support

Diana Cisneros, the town’s postmaster and a lifelong resident, and Heather Stoltz were proponents of Question 2G.[3]

Cisneros said, “Our town is finally on an upswing. We’re having families with kids moving in — I can’t see (retail shops) in a neighborhood.”[3]

Bob Rainek, who owns several homes and a couple of building lots in Red Cliff, was opposed to marijuana retail in Red Cliff. Although Rainek approves of legal retail marijuana in larger cities, Rainek, who hopes to retire in Red Cliff, said he thinks Question 2G is a good idea simply because Red Cliff is such a small community. He said, “My preference would be to see it in Vail or Beaver Creek. Those places are big enough to dilute any unforeseen impacts."[3]

Opposition

The Marijuana Policy Project opposed Question 2G.[1]
