Town of Ross parcel tax, Measure D (November 2012)

A Town of Ross parcel tax, Measure D ballot question was on the November 6, 2012, ballot for voters in the Town of Ross in Marin County, where it was approved.

Measure D extended an existing parcel tax for four more years. The rate of the parcel tax will decline to $950 per dwelling unit for single-family residences. The rate of the tax will be $950 per parcel for all other properties.

Measure D also increased the town's appropriations limit.

A two-thirds (66.67%) vote was required for passage.

On June 5, 2012, voters in the town rejected Measure C. Measure C would have continued a parcel tax of $1,000/year for four more years.

Support

Carla Small, a former mayor of the Town of Ross, chairs the "Yes on Measure D" campaign. She said that if Measure D fails, the level of services provided in the town is "not going to be what this community has had for many years...If [Measure D] doesn’t pass, it will dramatically impact our budget. It’s likely we would have to look at merging with another town or possibly with the Marin County sheriff’s office. There will be much slower response times. It will certainly change the character of our community."

MEASURE D: "Shall the voters of the Town of Ross adopt an ordinance replacing the prior municipal services tax with a special tax for maintaining public safety services for a period of four years at a lower maximum rate of $950 per dwelling unit for single family residences and $950 per parcel for all other uses, and increasing the Town’s appropriations limit by the amount of the special tax proceeds?"
