Three seats on the Dysart Unified School District Governing Board were up for election on November 4, 2014. Two of the seats up for election were four year terms. Spencer Bailey challenged incumbents Traci Sawyer-Sinkbeil and Blossom Tande in their re-election bids.[3]

The third seat was a two-year term to fill a vacancy on the board. Nanette Burnett, Ruth Butler and Suzanne Kellis were the candidates for the two-year term. Burnett originally filed to run for a four-year term, but later withdrew from that race and filed as a write-in candidate for the two-year term seat.[4]

Incumbent Traci Sawyer-Sinkbeil and challenger Spencer Bailey won the four-year terms.

Sawyer-Sinkbeil provided the following statement on her campaign website:

My name is Traci Sawyer-Sinkbeil and I am seeking your support and guidance to be re-elected as a Governing Board Member of the Dysart Unified School District. I believe that each student has the capability of countless achievement goals, where they will not only flourish but increasingly prosper all throughout the educational process. But their character growth plays a vital and profound role in the development of the whole child. I want each student to truly and richly succeed. With my platform and focus set on great communication and stronger collaboration between the Dysart Unified School District and the Cities of Surprise & El Mirage, I am confident a caring child can and will come forth. Together, our students can soar with that “spark” in their eyes beyond their wildest dreams.

We all have first-hand knowledge that it is not an easy road for our children to travel, but it is necessary for wisdom, information, and decision-making to take place. It will prepare them for the future and train their minds to realize their goals. Achievement is a crucial stage of development; although, skills are practiced in the educational setting, they are equally practiced at home. Without the foundation, there is no importance in the success of a child’s life, no value, no meaning.

We are here for the growth of students, to celebrate their successes, guide their decisions and embrace their future. Without a cohesive and responsible Board, finding the right balance between district goals and community needs will be hard to achieve. I would like to continue on that journey of further achievement with Dysart, “for” Dysart.

As a board member, I can assist the District to implement policies and create a firm foundation that supports programs which directly impact the academic achievement and expectations for our students. Having worked in education for over 15 years, both in the school/district level and the regulatory level and achieving my own educational goals with earned B.A. degrees in Business and Public Administration and an MBA from Ottawa University, I bring consistent experiential viewpoints to the table that can provide a fresh, positive perspective. One voice may be all that is needed to be an additional advocate for 26,000+ students and move the district towards continued success. I would be honored to be your “spark plug” for Dysart. Let’s make it happen…together! I appreciate your support and welcome your vote on November 4th.[6][7]
