Campaign themes

2016

Atwood's campaign website highlighted the following issues:

  • We need to become a leader in EDUCATION. We MUST get the funding obstacles sorted out NOW, not after years of committee process, and create practices and policies to continue funding in the future: PRE-K to 12 and a plan to help significantly reduce or eliminate the cost for a minimum of 2 years of continuing education in a public college for in-state resident students.
  • We need to be a leader for FAMILIES. We will find the means to get a livable wage passed state-wide. We will get support for those who need time to care for their family members. We will find the way to encourage development of ready and reliable public transportation, state wide. We will find a path to educate and support nutrition programs and make them accessible to everyone.
  • We need to become a leader for AFFORDABLE HOUSING. We will find creative and affordable and sustainable ways to provide housing for the working poor, the very low income and the no income wage brackets. No family should ever be homeless and no individual should have to be.
  • We need to become a leader for JOB CREATION and encourage business to develop and create more living wage jobs.
  • We need to become a leader in SUSTAINABILITY. I want to encourage businesses to adopt more sustainable practices and green technology. These businesses also will gain additional assistance to help educate and assist employees to employ similar sustainable practices outside of the business. This includes education and support for food cultivation in small personal or community groups.
  • We need to speed-track the development and adoption of SUSTAINABLE AND AFFORDABLE GREEN TECHNOLOGIES to replace our dependence on fossil fuels. We must also adopt permanent stricter regulation on hazardous cargo transportation in the state, no matter the transport vehicle.[1]
