|- CARE
Education is not just about curriculum and programs; it is about PEOPLE. I truly love people. I will work to know the people and needs in the schools that I represent. As I make decisions as an ASD Board member, I will remember those whom I represent and the boundless potential of our students. - COMMUNICATE Open and honest communication along with operational transparency are key to building trust and working relationships. As your representative I will make sure that opportunities, challenges, information, data, and possibilities are clearly communicated allowing you to maximize your part in public education. COLLABORATE I look forward to collaborating with stakeholders in creating educational opportunities across Alpine School District. Together we will serve all students as we strive to help them achieve educational excellence. As the African proverb states, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”
- ADVOCATE Education is not one size fits all. Every student has different learning needs and abilities. Along with general education, I believe that providing a wide variety of learning opportunities for students through specialty curriculums such as STEM, PE, and the arts provides opportunities for kids to grow, learn, and develop their individual talents and passions that help them to advance academically. When kids participate in things they are interested in, they want to go to school and they want to advance and grow academically. I will listen to and advocate on behalf of the constituents and schools I represent. I want to help build a place where students can grow and excel, and families can feel comfortable sending their children.
I believe that there should be equal opportunities for students to succeed, whether that is in special education, advanced learning, athletics, art, etc. Access to special programs should be open to all.
My time as a mother raising my five children has helped me develop patients, compassion, and the ability to really listen to the needs of others.
My time serving in church and community has helped me to develop empathy and understanding.
My time working as a realtor has helped me develop skills in communication and negotiation.
1) Advocate for constituents at the district level
2) Budget input and oversight
3) Policy approvals
Hearing the stories of those who jumped in to help and care for others during and after the attacks has inspired me in my life to know that it "takes a village" to care for those around us and to make our society work.
I also recognize that as a school board member, my views and my vote will impact all of those within the Alpine School District, regardless of which voting district they reside in. This includes teachers, students, parents and voters.
Stakeholders feel supported when they feel like they have been heard and that their feedback is valued.
Working with teachers and getting their feedback is also important as they are a key component to children's education.
This is best measured through the district program to create a culture of connection. For example, I love how Lindon Elementary and Oak Canyon Junior High School have worked to build connection through the implementation of a home-room program and a "trusted adult" initiative.
Financial transparency is a key driver in observing government and creating accountability. "The consent of the governed" is given primarily through the funding of government. If governments cannot show that tax money is used appropriately, it should be the right of the governed to with hold that until changes are made.
