My name is Tracy McMillan and I live in Pleasant Grove. I was raised in Lindon, graduated from Pleasant Grove High School, and have lived in the PG/Lindon area for over 30 years. I am passionate about serving others and helping children reach their full potential. I have 5 children (16, 13, 10, 7, 6) and a husband who shares my love of service and is supportive of our family and others. I obtained my real estate license and have been working as a real estate agent since 2016. I love helping families find their dream homes. But even with that opportunity my focus has been on raising my children and serving in my community. I have served as secretary and president of Lindon Elementary PTA, as well as on several PTA committees. I have also participated as a member of the Lindon Elementary School Community Council. Opportunities to serve have also come through youth and high school sports, PG/Lindon Cares, and Little Miss Lindon. Participation in many organizations in my church community has given me opportunities to regularly serve with children and youth.

    Education is not just about curriculum and programs; it is about PEOPLE. I truly love people. I will work to know the people and needs in the schools that I represent. As I make decisions as an ASD Board member, I will remember those whom I represent and the boundless potential of our students.
  • COMMUNICATE ​ Open and honest communication along with operational transparency are key to building trust and working relationships. As your representative I will make sure that opportunities, challenges, information, data, and possibilities are clearly communicated allowing you to maximize your part in public education. COLLABORATE ​ I look forward to collaborating with stakeholders in creating educational opportunities across Alpine School District. Together we will serve all students as we strive to help them achieve educational excellence. As the African proverb states, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”
  • ADVOCATE​ Education is not one size fits all. Every student has different learning needs and abilities. Along with general education, I believe that providing a wide variety of learning opportunities for students through specialty curriculums such as STEM, PE, and the arts provides opportunities for kids to grow, learn, and develop their individual talents and passions that help them to advance academically. When kids participate in things they are interested in, they want to go to school and they want to advance and grow academically. I will listen to and advocate on behalf of the constituents and schools I represent. I want to help build a place where students can grow and excel, and families can feel comfortable sending their children.
I am passionate about making sure that schools are funded in a way that provides the best opportunities for student growth and development, and that teachers are fairly and competitively compensated. I am also passionate about making sure that the public funds applied for education are used appropriately and that there is accountability to the taxpayers.

I believe that there should be equal opportunities for students to succeed, whether that is in special education, advanced learning, athletics, art, etc. Access to special programs should be open to all.
Elected officials should be honest, transparent, and communicative with constituents.
My time as a competitive gymnast helped me develop mental toughness, attention to detail, and the ability to persevere when things are difficult.

My time as a mother raising my five children has helped me develop patients, compassion, and the ability to really listen to the needs of others.

My time serving in church and community has helped me to develop empathy and understanding.

My time working as a realtor has helped me develop skills in communication and negotiation.

All of these qualities developed through these and other experiences shape who I am, and will help to make me a successful officeholder.
Core responsibilities of a local school board member are:

1) Advocate for constituents at the district level
2) Budget input and oversight
3) Policy approvals

4) Hiring district superintendent and administrator
The first historical event that i have a clear memory of is the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center Towers on September 11, 2001. I was 14 years old at the time.

Hearing the stories of those who jumped in to help and care for others during and after the attacks has inspired me in my life to know that it "takes a village" to care for those around us and to make our society work.
If I could be any fictional character it would be Hermione Granger from the "Harry Potter" series. She is smart, brave, true to herself, and will do whatever it takes to protect the people she cares most about.
Public Education is not one size fits all. I strongly believe that parents should have options that best fit their child’s needs and that it is the responsibility of the school district to find the best ways to support parents and fill those education needs.
All those who reside within the Alpine School District, but more specifically voter district 5 which encompasses the eastern side of Lindon, Pleasant Grove, and the south-eastern side of American Fork, Utah.

I also recognize that as a school board member, my views and my vote will impact all of those within the Alpine School District, regardless of which voting district they reside in. This includes teachers, students, parents and voters.
It is important to listen to feedback from parents, teachers, and students. This allows board members to work with administrators to implement policies and procedures that meet individual school needs.

Stakeholders feel supported when they feel like they have been heard and that their feedback is valued.
Relationships are built through personal connection. It is important to attend PTA, SCC, and city council meetings. PTA members and city council members are stakeholders that I will work with specifically to build relationships in the broader community.

Working with teachers and getting their feedback is also important as they are a key component to children's education.
Good teaching is when a teacher cares about their students and works to meet them where they are at so they can set them up for success.

This is best measured through the district program to create a culture of connection. For example, I love how Lindon Elementary and Oak Canyon Junior High School have worked to build connection through the implementation of a home-room program and a "trusted adult" initiative.
Building relationships with legislators and advocating for additional funding is paramount. The other part of that is educating and encouraging voters to take similar actions. This will help state legislators understand the need for additional funding.
Principles that drive safety in schools are prevention, intervention, collaboration, continuous improvement, and equity and inclusion.
We need to help students/faculty/staff understand that feelings are mentionable and manageable. This can be achieved through continued support for access to mental health resources like having psychologists and social workers in the schools.
The ideal learning environment would be that every student knows that someone cares about them, believes in them, and is given the tools and opportunities to succeed and pursue their interests.
Openly communicating and sharing information quickly is a key method for building relationships with parents. This includes responding to feedback, whether via email, text, phone call, or in person.
Offering competitive hiring packages and pay are the top ways to recruit quality and qualified teachers and administrators.
Government accountability is a core value of American democracy. In the Declaration of Independence, our founding document, Jefferson wrote "That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed." A government cannot derive its powers from the consent of the governed if there is no accountability.

Financial transparency is a key driver in observing government and creating accountability. "The consent of the governed" is given primarily through the funding of government. If governments cannot show that tax money is used appropriately, it should be the right of the governed to with hold that until changes are made.

Financial transparency is especially important as it relates to school districts. Public money goes towards schools on local levels, thus impacting taxpayers where they live.
