I am a mother of four boys who have gone through (2 graduated; 2 current students) the Cumberland County School System. I am a Minister and Founder of C2C Equipping Institute. I believe that education should continue throughout the course of life, as such, I am always a student. I also serve on the board of Trustees of an emerging university out of Tulsa, Oklahoma. I served eleven years in the Army, earning the Bronze Star Medal for my service and professionalism while deployed to Afghanistan. I am the Executive Director for Veterans Empowering Veterans in Fayetteville, NC and I am a recent appointee to the Fayetteville, Cumberland Human Relations Commission. I am not a North Carolina native. I was born and raised in Leesburg, Florida, graduating from Leesburg High School in 1994. I joined the Army in 1996. While serving in the Army I obtained my Bachelors of Science in Human Services/Management from University oof Phoenix and later went on to earn my Doctorate in Theology from Bible Institute of America Theological Seminary. I currently reside in Fayetteville with my husband and our sons.
  • Create a safe environment for our learners and educators: focusing on both physical, emotional, and psychological safety. Parents, teachers, and learners should not be afraid of what will happen at school. Violence, drugs, sexual exploitation, and bullying should not be a part of the school experience. We must do better for our students and the educators who are on the front lines with them. This includes ensuring that our schools have the adequate teaching staff and emotional support systems in place to service the students of Cumberland County: school counselors, social workers, and teachers aides. Our schools also need a county funded security force to adequately and consistently provide coverage for every Cumberland County School.
  • Raise our learners proficiency level to ensure they are able to compete with their peers in both education and the workforce after graduation. This involves closing the achievement gaps by addressing the unique needs of each student individually rather than directing the majority of the school board and school administration efforts to a particular race or ethnic group. I personally find the school boards attempt at race policy offensive. Every child means every child, regardless of background. To accurately address this issue our schools need to hire high quality educators along with an entire teaching staff to service the needs of all students in our county with the goal of providing each student a sound, basic education.
  • Fiduciary responsibility and accountability is another important issue for this school board. Collaboration with state and county agencies, most notably county commissioners, is going to be key to funding. We need to truly evaluate where the money is going; and because the funds are limited, make hard decisions on where to prioritize the funds. I would like to see this incoming board direct funds toward teacher supplements and staffing our classrooms with the proper support staff and resources required to service our students. Our school needs athletic and arts programs. These are key to developing emotional intelligence, team building, and resilience as our learners approach adulthood. CCS must find ways to fund these essential programs.
1. Curriculum Development: Establishing standards and guidelines for what students learn, including updates to meet evolving educational needs.

2. Funding & Budgeting: Allocating resources effectively to ensure all schools have the necessary funding for programs, facilities, and staff.

3. School Safety: Developing policies for physical and emotional safety, including emergency preparedness, mental health support, and anti-bullying measures.

4. Teacher Recruitment & Retention: Creating policies that support hiring qualified educators, providing professional development, and ensuring ensuring competitive compensation.
I love to read and learn so there are several books that have helped develop my political philosophy.

1. Now That You Are a Leader by Dr. Paula A. Price
2. Never Spilt the Difference by Chris Voss

3. Crisis by Thomas Payne
There are so many characteristics that enable one to effectively lead as an elected official. However, I will choose this six that are the most important upfront.

1. Leadership: Inspiring and guiding others, making informed decisions, and demonstrating a clear vision for the community or organization.
2. Communication Skills: Effectively conveying ideas, listening to constituents, and engaging in meaningful dialogue with the community and stakeholders.
3. Responsiveness: Being attentive to the concerns and needs of constituents, addressing issues in a timely manner, and being accessible.
4. Collaboration: Working cooperatively with others, including fellow officials, community members, and organizations, to achieve common goals.
5. Visionary Thinking: Anticipating future challenges and opportunities, and developing long-term strategies to improve the community.

6. Civic Responsibility: Committing to serve the public good, prioritizing community interests over personal or political gains.
It's easy to get caught up in "All the things I Want to Change" mentality. But in reality, School board members must work with an entire board to accomplish the strategic vision for CCS rather than just their own specific issues. The core responsibilities for this office include, but are not limited to the following:

1. Policy Development: Establishing and approving policies that govern the school district, including academic standards, student discipline, and budgetary guidelines.
2. Budget Oversight: Reviewing and approving the district's budget, ensuring that funds are allocated effectively to support educational goals and priorities.
3. Curriculum Oversight: Ensuring that the curriculum meets educational standards and serves the diverse needs of students, while also approving changes or new programs.
4. Community Engagement: Serving as a liaison between the school district and the community, listening to concerns, and fostering open communication with parents, students, and community members.
5. Advocacy: Advocating for the needs of the school district at local, state, and federal levels, including securing funding and resources.
6. Strategic Planning: Participating in the development of long-term goals and plans for the district, ensuring alignment with the community’s educational vision.
7. Accountability: Holding the district accountable for student performance and overall effectiveness, using data and assessments to guide decisions.
8. Professional Development: Engaging in ongoing training and education to stay informed about best practices in education and governance.

9. Legal Compliance: Ensuring that the district complies with all relevant laws and regulations, including those related to education, safety, and equity.
I worked at Hardees in Leesburg, Fl. I was the drive-through guru! I worked there for about 13 months before leaving to join the Army.
Financial transparency and government accountability are essential for promoting good governance, building trust, preventing corruption, and ensuring that public resources are managed effectively and responsibly.
