Originally from Virginia, I've been blessed to live in central WA since 2012. I am a mom to three kids, ages 6, 4, and 2, who are truly my life and my most important job. I am an ER doctor locally and am grateful for the opportunity to care for my neighbors. Also trained as a pediatrician, I recognize that "it takes a village" to provide opportunity and connection for all kids in our community. My family lives on a small farm, and we are involved in agricultural education. As a small business owner, I believe our future depends on how we support our local businesses and industries, and on wise use of the resources that make our home a special place. As a mom, I want my kids to grow up in a world where compassion and independence are equally valued. From the playroom to the planet, we've tried to teach our kids to leave the world a better place than we found it. And that's the yardstick. It informs my care for my next patient, my respect for our planet, and my desire for a more fair, loving, and just society.
  • Healthcare is a human right. Communities function better when this is so. It's not only the right thing to do, but it costs less to do so. Mental healthcare is important for each of us, and is something we pay for as a society in one way or another. And in broken/poorly funded systems, the fall back options, namely the emergency room and prisons, are the most expensive and least effective. Healthcare is only a piece of the puzzle in constructing community's health. My pediatrics training showed me that addressing issues early in life-food security, education funding, physical activity, cycles of poverty & trauma-can be both the right and cost-effective approach to healthier communities.
  • As we seek to leave this place better than we found it, there are meaningful ways that we can both prosper and protect. We can encourage both the production and consumption of renewable energy by businesses here in our backyard. We can protect our commercially and culturally important local fish stocks through more efficient irrigation practices and more fish-friendly hydropower. We can promote sustainable timber practices as a way of managing fuel loads & avoiding catastrophic seasonal wildfires. And we can protect local farms, recreation areas, and valuable cultural and ecological sites. The area we call home will continue to grow, prosper and thrive. We just want to do so intentionally, in a way that we'll be able to explain to our kids.
  • Education is the ultimate investment in each other - the belief that I flourish when my neighbor flourishes, when her children flourish. A robust educational system allows us to choose how we engage with the world and how we sustain our families. As automation will affect more jobs and professions, education becomes a lifelong process. We need dynamic vocational training that provides choice and prepares us for a changing economic landscape. Equitable education is not possible unless we address the underlying societal issues that not only hinder effective teaching, but also effective learning.
In medicine we are taught, "first, do no harm." As a mother of three, local ER doctor, and small business owner, I've been witness to the extreme disparities in health, happiness, and opportunity at play in our district. Leaders have the potential to help and the responsibility to try. Our district needs leaders who recognize that our economy is dependent on the well-being of both our people and our environment. I have the perspective and compassion to represent diverse viewpoints across the district, while advocating for policies that protect our people, our businesses, and our planet.

Let's love our neighbors as ourselves and grow the gifts we're blessed with by living here. Let's reject the false choice of environment or economy, helping our local industries to help us. Let's unite in curiosity and collaboration to give our children their best possible future.

I ask for your partnership, your support, and your hope. Together, let's grow our people, our businesses, and our community.
