Charged with misdemeanor poaching and firearms violations (2021)
On October 21, 2021, the Millard County Attorney's Office filed three misdemeanor charges against Seegmiller for an incident involving the shooting of a deer in the front yard of a private residence.[2] Seegmiller is accused of one count of unlawful taking of protected wildlife and two counts of unlawful discharge of a firearm.[3]
Witnesses to the incident said Seegmiller identified himself at the scene and claimed to be unemployed and in need of deer meat to feed his family.[2]
In 2013, Seegmiller was charged with the destruction of protected wildlife, making a written false statement, and obtaining a hunting permit by fraud, deceit, or misrepresentation. Seegmiller was found not guilty of all charges.[3]
On April 8, 2022, in a plea agreement, Seegmiller pleaded no contest to one count of unlawful taking of protected wildlife while trespassing. Two counts of unlawful discharge of a firearm were dropped as part of the plea agreement. Seegmiller was ordered to pay restitution to the "Stop Poaching Fund" and a fine. Additionally, his hunting privileges were revoked for three years. As of April 8, 2022, Seegmiller had not issued a response.[4][5]
Scorecards
A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.
Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
