Martin participated in Ballotpedia's 2015 survey of school board candidates. The following sections display his responses to the survey questions. When asked what his top priority would be if elected, the candidate made the following statement:

I believe that the most pressing issue for CCISD that the trustees have any control over is the need to accommodate a quickly growing community with adequate facilities and outstanding teachers. This includes making wise decisions about when and where to build new schools. How much to pay teachers and administrators to attract and retain the best.[1]

Question Response
What is your stance on implementing Common Core standards?
"They should not be implemented."
Should your district approve the creation of new charter schools?
"No."
Should the state give money to private schools through a voucher system?
"Depends on implementation."
Are standardized tests an accurate metric of student achievement?
"No."
How can the district ensure equal opportunities for high and low achieving students?
"The focus should be on creating programs that reach students where they are and helping them to achieve. One size does not fit all, and districts have to find ways to reach those students. When you place students in schools that are specialized for what they enjoy doing or teach in ways in which the understand, you find dramatic improvement. This can be done through tailoring teaching styles rather than standardizing."
How should expulsion be used in the district?
"Expulsion cases must be viewed on a case-by-case basis rather than the district having an overarching policy."
If a school is failing in your district, what steps should the school board take to help the students in that school?
"N/A in my district."
Do you support merit pay for teachers?
"Yes."
How should the district handle underperforming teachers?
"Set up a mentorship program for the underperforming teacher with a more experienced teacher in the district."
How would you work to improve community-school board relations?
"The key is communication. Improving on existing, and finding new ways to communicate activities in the district and with the board are the best way to improve relations."
