Poignee ran in the 2012 election for South Dakota House of Representatives District 26A. Poignee was defeated by Troy Heinert in the Democratic primary on June 5. Democrats Whitney A. Meek and Calvin G. Jones also ran. No Republican candidates filed for election. The general election took place on November 6, 2012. Incumbent Larry Lucas (D) did not run for re-election.[1][2]
