My college sweetheart and I moved to Lancaster, PA, two decades ago, raised our three children here, and made it our home. Like many families, we've faced our challenges, but when we hit tough times, this community was there for us. Now it's time for me to give back by fighting for other families and working people in our state.

As a career educator, I always thought I'd make my difference in the classroom. And I have--as a business professor for 18 years and as a middle-school US history and civics teacher since 2016. Now I'm seeking the opportunity to serve the entire Commonwealth and invest in our future.

I believe our state government can foster a more diverse, just, and welcoming community that works for all of its citizens. Pennsylvania can do better, and we deserve better.
  • Safeguarding our civil rights and liberties: I stand for a woman's right to abortion and reproductive healthcare, voters' access to the ballot, fair and full funding of our children's schools, and our freedom to be who we are and to love who we love. My opponent is leading the attack against these freedoms. I'm tired of extremist politicians playing games with our future and meddling with our private matters.
  • Promoting economic prosperity for all: Fostering meaningful job growth requires smart investment, not senseless giveaways to billionaires and big business. To address the kitchen table issues that concern most of us, we need to build more affordable housing, ensure access to good quality jobs, and commit to the green economy.
  • Protecting the physical safety and wellbeing of our people: Unlike my opponent, I believe the government should stay out of your personal business as much as possible, unless there is a clear, compelling public interest. When traffic deaths were the leading killer of children, we did something about it and saved thousands of lives. Now that firearms are the leading cause of death in children and the opioid crisis continues to plague our communities, we need to take similarly ambitious action. That's why I support common sense, attainable gun reform and serious efforts to address addiction, provide mental health treatment, and stem the flow of illegal drugs into our communities.
Getting big money out of politics.

Saving our democracy from election deniers and authoritarians.

Fairly and fully funding our public education system.

Keeping politicians out of people’s private lives if there is no public interest.

Advancing LGBTQ+ rights and freedoms.

Protecting your right to make your own reproductive health choices.

Promoting reasonable gun reform.

Supporting meaningful and accessible mental health care and treatment.

Crafting tax policies that favor most of us, not just the very rich and large corporations.

Preserving our farmland and addressing climate change.

Encouraging responsible economic development to create quality jobs, taking account of community priorities.
Equality--treat everyone as your equal and don't give preferential treatment to your big donors.

Integrity--be clear and honest as you follow through on your commitments.
Transparency--be honest about what you are doing, why you are doing it, and who will benefit.
Accessibility--be available to listen to ALL of your constituents.
Decency--strive to protect the vulnerable and do no harm.

Good stewardship--use the public's resources wisely for the greatest public good.
As a teacher and coach, I try every day to model integrity and honesty for my students. While listening to every opinion, I am also not shy about standing up for my values. The most fundamental value is equality--every person is worthy of dignity and respect, and carries within them a truth to share. This means I will endeavor to learn from and listen to all of my constituents, not just the few who attempt to curry favor or make big donations.
Represent the district's interests to the rest of the General Assembly AND do what is best for Pennsylvania.
The Grapes of Wrath, by John Steinbeck, which shows how people going through struggle and hardship can help each other overcome.
The hardest thing I've ever had to face was the death of our beloved twenty-year old son, George, in 2019 to a drug overdose. As the parents of a transgender child, we supported him in every way we knew how to. We know how difficult it can be to protect your child against intolerance and hatred. How hard it can be to help loved ones navigate mental health challenges.

Every day I wake up and think about how I could carry the flag for all of our fallen loved ones. How can I help prevent other families from experiencing that same loss and grief? I believe that doing a good job in Harrisburg--getting beyond all the extremism and political games--can save lives. I believe that our elected officials have a duty to fight for the vulnerable and that the bullying of our LGBT+ youth by politicians has got to stop.
The Fairness Act, SB150, would prevent discrimination based on sexuality, gender identity or expression. Discrimination is just plain wrong, but it is also inconsistent with our Commonwealth's founding principles. It is also bad for business. We need to do right by all of our citizens.
