Troy Edgar was a 2012 Republican candidate for District 72 of the California State Assembly. He had previously chosen to run for the U.S. House, but dropped out of that race to run for the state assembly.[1]
Donald Trump (R) announced on December 16, 2024, that he had selected Edgar to serve as deputy secretary of Homeland Security in his second presidential administration.[2]

Edgar ran in the 2012 election for California State Assembly District 72. He advanced past the blanket primary on June 5, 2012, defeating Joe Dovinh (D), Albert Ayala (D), and Long Pham (R). Edgar was defeated by Travis Allen (R) in the general election on November 6, 2012.[4][5][6]
