BOISE, Idaho: 2011 ballot measure elections have come and gone. With 2012 on the horizon, here's a peek at two initiatives that have been proposed for the November 2012 ballot. Both measures are sure to come with lively debates from both supporters and opponents:
- Idaho Medical Choice Act (2012) - The measure would protect patients who use medical marijuana from criminal prosecution. The initiative effort is being organized by the group Compassionate Idaho and has been approved for circulation, according to the Idaho Secretary of State's office.
- Idaho Felony Animal Cruelty Initiative (2012) - The measure would make certain cases of animal cruelty a felony in the state. The initiative effort is being headed by an umbrella group of multiple organizations called Idaho 1 of 3, the name most likely meaning that the state is one of three states that does not consider animal cruelty a felony. The group Stop Torturing Our Pets, which was founded by Virginia Hemingway, is also part of that group.
