White & Jefferson counties, Illinois: Judges Thomas H. Sutton and Terry H. Gamber of the Illinois Second Judicial Circuit have announced their retirements.[1][2]

Judge Sutton's retirement is effective December 2nd, 2012, the last day of his current term. In the statement released by Sutton, he said while the decision was difficult he wanted to assure that the voters of White County would decide his successor in the general election, rather than leaving mid-term, in which case the Illinois Supreme Court would appoint a replacement. His statement can be read in it's entirety here (dead link).

Judge Gamber will enter retirement December 31, 2011, almost one year before his term was set to expire. On September 8th, the Illinois Supreme Court released a statement announcing the vacancy.[3]
