New Hampshire: Today Governor John Lynch will announce new appointments in the Granite State. First, Linda Dalianis is nominated to become Chief Justice of the New Hampshire Supreme Court and also head of the state's judiciary. If confirmed, she will become the first woman to serve in that position. She would replace retiring Justice John Broderick, who will step down from the court on November 30, 2010 to become Dean of the University of New Hampshire School of Law.[1][2]

To succeed Dalianis as an associate justice Governor Lynch nominated Robert J. Lynn, current Chief Justice of the New Hampshire Superior Court. Lynn has served in this capacity since 2004, and has been on that court since 1992.[1]

Lynch also announced the nominations of two district court judges. Kristin Spath, currently an associate attorney general and chief of staff for the Department of Justice, has been nominated to the Concord District Court. James Carroll, an attorney for Belknap County, is nominated for the Laconia District Court.[1]

All four nominations must be confirmed by the Executive Council before becoming official. The council is expected to vote on the confirmations on December 8, after holding a public hearing.[1]
