Taos, NM On June 17, 2011, New Mexico Governor Susana Martinez appointed Sarah Backus and Andria Cooper to the New Mexico Eighth Judicial District Court filling both vacant slots in the court. Martinez commented on the nomination, stating "“These judges are entrusted with the important job of upholding the law with integrity and fairness. Both Ms. Backus and Ms. Cooper have demonstrated that they are capable attorneys and public servants and I believe that they will work hard on behalf of the people of Taos, Colfax, and Union Counties.”[1] Backus currently serves on the El Valle de los Ranchos Water and Sanitation District as the director and chief attorney while Cooper is a private practice attorney in Alan Maestas Law Firm in Taos.[1]
