Lincoln, Nebraska: Nebraska's 8th Judicial District had two nominees forwarded to Governor Dave Heineman on July 13, 2012.[1][2]

The vacancy was created with the retirement of Judge Gary Washburn. Three applicants initially submitted applications to fill the position at the end of June: Michael Borders, Gary Peterson and Tami Schendt, all of Broken Bow, Nebraska.[3]

The 8th judicial district nominating commission chose Michael S. Borders and Tami K. Schendt as the nominees for the open seat on the bench. The names of the nominees were forwarded to Governor Dave Heineman, who will appoint one.[1] Heineman's office says he will interview both nominees in the coming weeks.[1]

The 8th Judicial District consists of Blaine, Boyd, Brown, Cherry, Custer, Garfield, Greeley, Holt, Howard, Keya Paha, Loup, Rock, Sherman, Valley and Wheeler counties.[1]
