My name is Tyler Barrett, and I am running for soil and water conservation board because I believe in environmental stewardship. I come from 7 generations of farmers, and my grandparents were children of tenant farmers. They taught me how to work hard, grow my own food, and take care of my neighbors. I am the first person in my family to graduate college, and I founded my own public policy firm right here in Tampa. I have been a community advocate for over a decade, organizing food drives, teaching Floridians how to care for plants and protect our unique ecosystem.
  • LISTEN TO FARMERS: My top priority is to sit down with farmers and be their ear. Farmers are the cornerstone of our county, state, and country. I will offer a direct open line for farmers to offer suggestions, voice grievances, and recommend best practices for their benefit- we cannot have a healthy agricultural expansion without prioritizing the needs and expertise of farmers.
  • ENCOURAGE MINI-FARMS: I will work with new beginner and intermediate level mini-farmers to promote and increase sustainability and resilience of our county.
  • BUILD COALITIONS FOR MORE GRANT MONIES: I have experience working on the ground to bring people together. By working with stakeholders and members of the public, I will bring fresh energy and passion for our Soil & Water Conservation while committing to do my homework and learn to better myself and our district as much as possible.
Rural Planning, Environmental Science, Food Security, Public Health
My belated grandfather (papaw), who worked as a dairy farmer, served in the Marines during WW2, and lived through the Great Depression.
Transparency, honesty, willingness to learn from mistakes, humility, kindness, strong work ethic.
The core responsibilities of this office are to educate residents of Hillsborough County on water conservation, land preservation, build coalitions and seek grant funds to make our agricultural community stronger, and keep our rural communities healthy.
Financial transparency is vital for a healthy government.
