Economy Before the global pandemic reached our shores and forced the closing of small businesses, The United States enjoyed one of the strongest and most robust economies in our entire history. The tide of outsourcing was being reversed and jobs were returning. Failed trade deals were being renegotiated for the best interests of America and we were well on the way to prosperity for all Americans. Unfortunately through COVID-19, Democrats and their leftist allies were able to take advantage of a crisis and force our economy to its knees, all for political gain. Small businesses were forced to close their doors while large corporations remained open. We saw our society carved up into those who were essential and those who were not. Make no mistake, every job that puts food on the table is essential. Now that a vaccine has arrived and infection rates are on the decline, we must resist further calls to keep businesses closed and hard-working Americans at home. We have to begin to create a climate that allows for Americans to work and for businesses to flourish.
No country can afford to place the needs of foreign citizens above those of its own. This is certainly true for the United States. The far left has long advocated for increased privileges and incentives for illegal immigrants while leaving citizens of this country kicked to the curb. From free healthcare and college tuition to paying zero taxes, we have incentivized thousands to break our laws by flooding across our borders. There is a wrong and a right way to enter this country and method matters. I believe in immigration, but it must be done legally. The truth is our immigration system is broken. One of the ways we can fix our system is to complete the border wall to facilitate a safe and legal immigration process, and have a gate so that those who desire to contribute and live their American Dream can enter the right way. Without a strong border, we invite human trafficking and dangerous drugs to pour into our country and affect our communities. This affects every part of our country and the greater Charlotte area is no exception. Charlotte has one of the highest rates of human trafficking in the nation and we cannot pretend it is not a problem or that it is not related to the crisis on our southern border. I am determined to fight for a strong border policy to protect not only our communities and citizens, but the thousands of innocent migrants who are victimized and trafficked across our border every single day. No one should be forced into the evils of slavery and this is the very thing that an open border invites. I will not turn a blind eye to this grave evil.
Our armed forces are the greatest peacekeeping force this planet has ever seen. This is why we must support our military by giving them the tools they need to maintain peace and show our allies that they have our support. In the face of Russian aggression, we cannot afford to be complacent in our responsibilities to our allies. So often we hear from the left that we must downsize our military and that we must seek peaceful and diplomatic solutions. Diplomatic solutions should always be the first choice, and sometimes the best diplomatic tool we have is the might of our military. We have the most powerful military in the world and if we allow this dominance to become undermined someone will take our place at the top. Can we afford that top tier to be taken by China or Russia? We cannot allow the spread of anti-democratic ideologies to go unchecked. Socialism, fascism, and human rights abuses cannot be allowed to spread.
I strongly believe that life begins at conception and thus must be protected from conception to natural death. We are all created with God-given dignity and value. This is the defining issue of our time. We cannot allow the lives of countless millions of children to be wiped out on our watch. It cannot continue, and I will work to ensure that every child is protected. We are told this is an issue of choice, but the truth is the evil of abortion hurts not just the child being aborted, but also women. Many of whom later come to regret their decision, a decision which can never be reversed.
Our healthcare system has been broken for a long time. Reform is needed but not for reform’s sake. As is the case with so many issues, I believe that the best remedy for this is the free market. So much has been talked about healthcare, but the one thing that has never been tried is to allow the free market to operate in the area of insurance and healthcare. When we put the American People in the driver’s seat of their own policy, we enable them to make the best decisions for themselves instead of a one size fits all policy. The free market allows for choice and competition. When providers are forced to compete, prices come down and quality goes up – it’s a simple concept. Many have advocated for a single-payer system that would necessarily eliminate competition and stifle choice. Single-payer increases cost overall and lower quality of care while killing innovation. It leads to rationing and puts a government bureaucrat in charge of your care rather than yourself. Transparency, choice, and freedom are the best ways forward.
Since the beginning the Social Security system has been abused and plundered by career politicians for their own purposes. This is not an entitlement, but rather a program that we pay into expecting to receive our investment back when the time comes. Instead, by the latest estimates from SSA.gov, Social Security will dry up by 2035. We must work to strengthen Social Security and we cannot allow it to be abused by politicians for pet projects like the “Green New Deal” or a pie in the sky “Medicare for All” proposal.
The United States and Israel share a long and proud history of friendship and shared values. As the only democracy in the middle east, we cannot afford to lose this strong ally and we must support Israel as a critical safeguard against terror and oppression in an unstable region. I am proud to be a supporter of Israel and I believe the United States must work to ensure that Israel remains a stable and strong force for human rights, religious freedom, and democracy.
Under the leadership of the previous administration, the United States enjoyed a period of unprecedented gains in foreign policy. The values and interests of the American people were protected and fought for. The Chinese Communist Party was held to account for their lies and corruption. Sadly, a new administration has begun to allow Beijing to wield its influence in the highest levels of our government and around the globe. This is a dangerous situation and we must not allow the progress that has been made in the area of foreign policy to be undermined and reversed.
If it doesn’t work for your household, it doesn’t work for the federal government. That’s why I believe we must balance our national budget and I support a Balanced Budget Amendment to our Constitution. But amendments are difficult to pass, as they should be, which is why we need to start with the attainable. We need to reimagine the way we deal with our nation’s finances. There are so many three-letter agencies, many of which have overlapping responsibilities. This contributes to waste, inefficiency, and, worse yet, an increased role of the government in the lives of our citizens. Agencies like the IRS, EPA, and HHS have enjoyed unchecked influence for far too long. Reform is needed. Let’s reimagine and reform these agencies, cut down on crippling regulation, and lower taxes. We can put power back in the hands of the states and municipalities, because what works for other states simply doesn’t work for North Carolina.
I believe in small and limited government, but there are areas where the government certainly has a role to play. Regulating interstate commerce and maintaining and providing vital infrastructure help to facilitate a strong economy.[2] |
