Tyree Irving
Tyree Irving was a judge on the Mississippi Court of Appeals (District 2, Position 1). He was first elected to the court in 1998 and was re-elected in 2002 and 2010. Irving retired December 31, 2018.[1]
Education
Irving was born on July 12, 1946, in Greenwood, Mississippi. He graduated from Jackson State College in 1968. After working as a public school teacher for four years, he earned his law degree from the University of Mississippi School of Law in 1974.[2]
Career
Irving began his legal career as a law clerk for Mississippi Supreme Court Chief Justice Robert G. Gillespie. After his clerkship, he interned with the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund. In 1978, he became an assistant United States attorney for the Northern District of Mississippi. In 1988, he was hired as board attorney for the Board of Supervisors of Humphreys County. He ran a general, solo law practice in Greenwood until his election to the Court of Appeals.[2]
2010 election
Irving defeated Ceola James in the general election.[3]
