Teen's drug death led to first-ever conviction
Wayne County Circuit Judge Ulysses Boykin sentenced a former volunteer basketball coach to 11 to 20 years in prison for giving a 17-year-old girl a controlled substance causing death. This was a law created in 2006, which holds dealers responsible when their drugs are responsible for someone's murder. Judge Boykin said the case "all too graphically illustrates the dangers of illegal drugs" and proves "what drugs have done to our society."[4]
