The Uniform Unclaimed Property Act is an interstate compact among 15 states and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The act established a set of regulations regarding the handling of unclaimed property from safety deposit accounts or in cases where property is held by an entity other than the rightful owner. This act only applies to property that can be considered abandoned.[1] It was superceeded in 2016 by the Revised Uniform Unclaimed Property Act.[2]

Text of the compact

The legislature of each member state passes the laws with certain modifications, but the core of the legislation remains the same.
