United States District Court for the District of Arkansas
The United States District Court for the District of Arkansas was created by Congress in 1836 and lasted until 1851. That year, Arkansas was divided into the Eastern and Western Districts, which are still in operation today. During the fifteen-year life of the court, there was only one judgeship authorized.[1]
Benjamin Johnson was the court's first judge, and served until his death in 1849. Johnson was succeeded by Daniel Ringo, who retained his judgeship until his resignation in 1861, serving both the Eastern and Western districts jointly after their creation in 1851.[2][3]
