The United States District Court for the District of Louisiana was established by Congress in 1812 to replace the former District Court for the Territory of Orleans.[1] It was dissolved in 1823, when Louisiana was divided into Eastern and Western districts. The District Court for the District of Louisiana served the state of Louisiana for two more periods, from 1845 to 1849 and again from 1866 to 1881.[1]
