This page is about a former federal court. For a list of active courts, see: United States federal courts.

The United States District Court for the District of Orleans was established by Congress in 1804. It was created to serve the Territory of Orleans, that portion of the Louisiana Purchase lying south of the 33rd parallel. It is the only territorial court to have been given the same level of authority as state district courts. In 1812, after Louisiana was granted statehood, it was abolished, and the United States District Court for the District of Louisiana was established in its stead.[1] Dominic Augustin Hall was the judge on the court during its eight-year life.[2]
