The 2012 U.S. House of Representatives elections in Missouri took place on November 6, 2012. Voters elected eight candidates to serve in the U.S. House, one from each of the state's eight congressional districts.

Primary: Missouri has an open primary system, meaning any registered voter can vote in any party's primary.
Voter registration: Voters had to register to vote in the primary by July 11. For the general election, the voter registration deadline was October 10.[1]

The Center for Voting and Democracy (Fairvote) projected that Democrats would win two districts while Republicans would win five seats. It did not make a projection for the remaining district.[2]
Primary competitiveness
Missouri tied with Mississippi, Nevada, and Ohio for having the 15th most competitive congressional primaries in 2012, with 62.5% of major party primaries having been contested (10 out of 16). The national average was 54.31%.
Eight U.S. House incumbents sought re-election in Missouri in 2012. 6 of those 8 (75%) faced a primary challenger. Nationwide, 200 out of the 386 incumbents seeking re-election faced a primary challenger (51.81%).
Partisan breakdown
Heading into the November 6 election, the Republican Party held six of the nine Congressional seats from Missouri. However, the state lost one seat after the 2010 census and elected eight representatives.

Note: Candidates Harold Whitfield and Glenn Koenen were separated by a small percentage of votes, with the race too close to call.[6] On August 9, 2012 Whitfield announced that he would request a recount, as the race was separated by less than 1 percent of the votes.[7] On September 13, 2012 the recount was completed and Koenen was declared the winner.[8] |
