California: Since the Supreme Court and Court of Appeals justices and judges run for retention elections, the major contested judicial races in California are the Superior Courts. Though there are almost 400 seats up for election this year, only 37 of those are contested races. California judges run in nonpartisan elections, so if no candidate receives at least 51% of the vote, the two candidates with the most votes advance to the general election.

This occurred in nine of yesterday's races:

Victoria Kolakowski and Johhn Creighton won 45.12% and 32.17% of the vote, respectively.[1]
Number 28 - In a crowded race, Randy Hammock won 23% of the vote, while Chris Garcia won 14%.
Number 117 - Alan K. Schneider won 42% of the vote and Tom Griego won 32%.[2]
Mark Magit received 46.51% of the vote, while Randall L. Gephart won 43.35%.[3]
Richard Monroy received 39.43% of the vote, followed by Jim Miller, Jr. with 32.78%.[4]
Michael Nava and Richard B. Ulmer, Jr. received 45.52% and 41.91% of the vote, respectively.[5]
Thomas S. Archer won 38.85% of the vote, followed by Charles Ervin with 30.73%.[6]
Pat Broderick received 40.2% of the vote and John Lemmon received 32.7%.[7]
In a race with six candidates, Shawn D. Bessey won the most votes with 24.21%. Nancy Williamsen won 21.12 of the vote.[8]
