Montana: In Montana's judicial primary, there were no winners, since the two candidates that receive the most votes advance to the general election. Because only three candidates, Michael E. Wheat, Beth Baker and Nels Swandal, are running for two seats on the Montana Supreme Court, all candidates will compete in November.[1]

Yesterday morning, there were 24 candidates for the six seats up for election on the district courts. This morning there are eleven for the general election.

  • 1st District, Dept. 4: James P. Reynolds received the most votes, winning 26%. Next was Dennis Loveless, with 22%.[2]
  • 4th District, Dept. 4: Brenda Desmond and Karen Townsend were the only candidates, so both advance to the general election.
  • 11th District, Dept 4: David M. Ortley received 46% of the vote, while Heidi J. Ullbrict garnered 28%.[2]
  • 13th District, Dept 6: This newly created seat in Yellowstone County had nine candidates. Now, Damon L. Gannett and Mary Jane McCalla Kniseley will compete in the general election.[3]
  • 19th District, Dept 1: Jim Wheelis received 48% of the vote. Robert Slomski was next, winning 39%.[2]
  • 21st District, Dept 1: Jeffrey H. Langton is still running unopposed for re-election.
