Utah Initiative B was on the ballot as an initiated state statute in Utah on November 2, 1976. It was defeated.

A "yes" vote supported authorizing the recall of any public officer through a special election if the number of signatures supporting the recall total:

  • 10% of the total vote cast for state officers; 
  • 12% of the total vote cast for county officers; and
  • 15% of the total vote case for municipal officers.

A "no" vote opposed authorizing the recall of any public officer through a special election.

Text of measure

Ballot title

The ballot title for Initiative B was as follows:

Should a law be adopted, the purpose of which shall be:

  1. To authorize the recall of any public officer whether elected or appointed, for any reason whatsoever, including political reasons, by the registered voters of the electoral district from which said officer is elected or appointed, and

  2. To authorize a special election to replace any officer as a result of a recall petition signed by registered voters of at least 10% for state officers, 12% for county officers, and 15% for local officers.
