Utah Judges Retiring, Nominees Named

Utah: In Utah news, there are a number of judges retiring or resigning, leaving vacancies open and ready to be filled.
In Woods Cross, applications are now being accepted for the Justice Court judge position. The position became available when Judge Robert G. Peters resigned on July 20, 2011.[1]
Applications are now being accepted for the Woods Cross position. The requirements are as follows:
- Must be of at least 25 years of age
- Must be a United States citizen
- Must be a Utah resident for at least three years
- Must have earned a high school diploma or GED
- Must have been a resident of the county the court is currently located in or adjacent to, for at least six months
Deadlines for all applications is 5 p.m. on August 4, 2011. The applications should be sent to Shari Veverka, Administrative Office of the Courts, P.O. Box 140241, Salt Lake City, Utah 84114-0241. Applications are also accepted by fax and can be faxed to (801) 578-3843.

In the Utah Third Judicial District, the 3rd District Judicial Nominating Commission has named nominees for two Third Judicial District judgeships. The judgeship vacancies have resulted from the retirements of Judge Glenn K. Iwasaki and Judge Joseph C. Fratto, Jr., who will be retiring effective as of October 1, 2011 and December 16, 2011 respectively.[2]
Nominees named for Judge Glenn K. Iwasaki's vacancy are the following:[2]

- Curtis Garner, Cottonwood Heights, member, Utah Board of Pardons and Parole;

- Philip Lott, Sandy, assistant attorney general, Utah Attorney General’s Office.
Nominees named for Judge Joseph C. Fratto, Jr.'s vacancy are the following:[2]
- S. Grace Acosta, Salt Lake City, associate, Scalley Reading Bates Hansen & Rasmussen;
- James Blanch, Salt Lake City, shareholder, Parsons Behle & Latimer;
- Curtis Garner, Cottonwood Heights, member, Utah Board of Pardons and Parole;
- Elizabeth Hruby-Mills, Salt Lake City, shareholder, Richards Brandt Miller Nelson;
- Brent Johnson, Sandy, general counsel, Utah State Courts.

Also in the Utah Third Judicial District, Judge Robert K. Hilder will be retiring on August 1, 2011. Third District Judge Royal I. Hansen will take over the post for a two-year term, with Judge Deno Himonas serving as an associate presiding judge alongside Hansen.[3]
