Vacancy on Arizona's high court draws 13 candidates

Arizona: When Justice Michael D. Ryan (Arizona) stepped down from the court on August 6, 2010, he left a vacancy to be filled by appointment. First, it is the duty of the Arizona Judicial Nominating Commission to provide a list of possible finalists for Governor Jan Brewer to select from.
The applicants interested in Ryan's seat are:
- John Gemmill, Diane Johnsen, Maurice Portley, Ann Timmer and Lawrence Winthrop, all judges on the Arizona Court of Appeals;
- Robert Brutinel and James Beene, Arizona Superior Court judges;
- Kent Cattani, Arizona prosecutor;
- Lisa Hauser, an election lawyer; and
- Regina Nassen, Pima County Attorney's Office senior lawyer.[1]
