The Judicial Update

September 13, 2011

Delaware: A seat that has been vacant on the United States District Court for the District of Delaware since 2006 is now one step closer to being filled. Barack Obama nominee Richard G. Andrews was approved by the Senate Judiciary Committee on a voice vote on Thursday September 8, 2011. His nomination next goes before the Senate as a whole for confirmation.[1]

Andrews was nominated by the President on May 11, 2011. Upon the nomination, Obama told the press, "[Andrews has] demonstrated the talent, expertise, and fair-mindedness Americans expect and deserve from their judicial system. I am grateful for [his] willingness to serve and confident that [he] will apply the law with the utmost impartiality and integrity."[2]

Andrews is rated "Well Qualified" by the substantial majority of the American Bar Association and "Qualified" by the minority.[3]
