Ballotpedia identified the May 19, 2026, Republican primary as a battleground election. The summary below is from our coverage of this election, found here.

Andy Barr, Daniel Cameron, Nate Morris, and nine others are running in the Republican primary for U.S. Senate in Kentucky on May 19, 2026. Incumbent Mitch McConnell (R) is not running, opening the seat for the first time since McConnell's election in 1984.[2] As of February 16, 2026, Barr, Cameron, and Morris led in polling, fundraising, endorsements, and media attention.

The election takes place against the backdrop of a divide between establishment Republicanism, associated with McConnell, and an America First Republicanism, associated with President Donald Trump (R). Barr, Cameron, and Morris have distanced themselves from McConnell and are campaigning as America First Republicans and allies of Trump. Morris, however, has positioned himself as a political outsider and alleges Barr and Cameron would align with McConnell rather than Trump in the Senate. Barr and Cameron question Morris' alignment with America First Republicanism by citing Morris' past involvement and support of liberal figures and issues.[3][4][5]

The Lexington Herald-Leader's Austin Horn wrote on the potential advantages for each candidate. Citing support from Vice President J.D. Vance (R), Turning Point USA, Donald Trump Jr., and Elon Musk, Horn says of Morris: "These are the kind of connections that lead some to believe Morris is best positioned to get an endorsement from Trump. ... Trump could decide the fate of the primary if he endorses a candidate."[6] According to Horn, Barr and Cameron have greater name recognition at the state level. "It’s not just name ID, the Cameron camp would argue. It’s organic name ID. Kentuckians know him because of the things he’s done, not the ads he’s run."[6] And for Barr, "he has what Cameron and Morris have: a base and money. ... Unlike Cameron, he has plenty of resources to pay for television ads, consultants to fashion them and a team of organizers to crisscross the state. And unlike Morris, he started with some amount of name ID and support."[6]

Barr represents Kentucky's 6th Congressional District. He says, "I'm running for Senate to help our president save this great country. Together, we'll cut taxes, slash waste, and fire the deep state bureaucrats who steal our freedoms. We'll deport illegal aliens instead of putting them up in luxury hotels. And my plan for these insane DEI initiatives is pretty simple. DIE."[7]

Cameron is the CEO of 1792 Exchange and served as Kentucky's attorney general from 2019 to 2024.[8] He says, "The core pillars of my campaign are simple: advance President Trump’s America First agenda, a faith-centered approach to public service, restore law and order, and a promise to root out DEI."[9]

Morris is the founder, chairman, and CEO of Morris Industries.[10] He says, "I'm running for Senate because Kentucky deserves a US Senator who supports President Trump and his America First agenda and isn't a controlled puppet of Mitch McConnell."[11]

Thirty-three of the 100 U.S. Senate seats are up for election, and another two seats are up for special election. Democrats hold 13 of the seats up for election, and Republicans hold 22. As of January 2026, 11 members of the U.S. Senate announced they are not running for re-election. To read more about the U.S. Senate elections taking place this year, click here.

This is one of 10 open U.S. Senate races this year in which an incumbent is not running for re-election. Across the country, four Democrats and six Republicans are not running for re-election — more than any year since 2012. In 2024, eight incumbents — four Democrats, two Republicans, and two independents — did not seek re-election.

Mike Faris (R) and Andrew Shelley (R) completed Ballotpedia's Candidate Connection survey. To read those survey responses, click here.

Also running in the primary are Anissa Catlett, James Duncan, Val Fredrick, Jonathan Holliday, Jimmy Leon, George Washington, and Donald Wenzel.

Polls

See also: Ballotpedia's approach to covering polls

Polls are conducted with a variety of methodologies and have margins of error or credibility intervals.[12] The Pew Research Center wrote, "A margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points at the 95% confidence level means that if we fielded the same survey 100 times, we would expect the result to be within 3 percentage points of the true population value 95 of those times."[13] For tips on reading polls from FiveThirtyEight, click here. Below we provide results for polls from a wide variety of sources, including media outlets, social media, campaigns, and aggregation websites, when available. Satellite spending describes political spending not controlled by candidates or their campaigns; that is, any political expenditures made by groups or individuals that are not directly affiliated with a candidate. This includes spending by political party committees, super PACs, trade associations, and 501(c)(4) nonprofit groups.[14][15]

If available, satellite spending reports by the Federal Election Commission (FEC) and OpenSecrets.org are linked below. FEC links include totals from monthly, quarterly, and semi-annual reports. OpenSecrets.org compiles data from those reports as well as 24- and 48-hour reports from the FEC.[16]

Dr Val Fredrick represents Kentucky's men, women & children with Christian values, integrity and freedom. A vote for Dr Val is a vote for your future. America first, Dr Val Fredrick represents pro life, traditional families, closed borders to non citizens, constitutional protection by counties, education run by parents and students, no healthcare mandates, vaccine and gene therapy moratorium, enforcement of KRS 508.170 making masking mandates class c felony physical abuse, and no dual citizenship of officials. Hand counted paper ballots, in precinct voting no more than 750 registered voters per precinct, no machines, 1 day voting, clear ballot boxes, full forensic audits and recounts of every election. Appointments should not be able to run for the office. Right to bear arms at 16 years old, following gun safety course, due to working age and driver license age. Dr Val promises better jobs, wages and working conditions for the average American citizen, reduced immigration, reduced taxes, reduced college costs, better health care and an end to sending money overseas and end funding to special interest groups, birth control and university research. Dr Val supports major election finance reform, ethical standards reform and small business and farm facilitation, to break monopolies.
  • Stop Rand Paul's push for unlimited immigration of health care workers. Reverse Rand Paul's push to increase immigration and work visas. Stop Rand Paul's chemical castration of women by govt funding birth control. Stop Rand Paul's govt funding adultery by invitro fertilization and storing babies in cold storage. Stop Rand Paul's "pay to play" election endorsements and PAC spending to influence elections. Demand that NGO's such as Catholic Charities, return money to taxpayers if paid, from any source, to aid illegal immigrants. Ten year moratorium on immigration. Remove illegals, charge monetary compensation from country of origin. Emergency orders should be nonbinding on US citizens and business.

  • Reinstate Trump as elected President, nullifying Biden administration actions to include appointment of Judge Brown to the Supreme Court. American people believe “It” was chosen to promote pedophilia, sexual harassment of children in grade school and college, immorality and confuse human biology truth prior to frontal lobe development. Close US funded biolabs in Ukraine, other countries and colleges. Stop Rand Paul from pushing "pro vaccine but you should be able to choose" agenda because Dr David Martin provided Rand Paul evidence the vaccine is weaponized and Rand Paul continued genocide promotion. Hold Rand Paul to the two term limit he promised. He lied and is running for a third term after ruining our country for 12 years.
  • Educate the public that PA and AZ instructed congress to object to fraudulent electors and Rand Paul and Kentucky Congress certified them, against the state legislators instructions, violating the constitution and interfering with the states' right to run their own elections. We are suffering severe consequences of election fraud due to the actions of Kentucky Congress. January 6 prisoners need to be released. The people were in the peoples' house that was opened by the capital police and entry was encouraged by the FBI and CIA implanted in the crowd. Stop heavy handed judicial system. Reduce government by 30 percent with no government retirements or pensions. Thus removing the incentive to “hog” the government jobs and positions.
Govt should be serving the people. Citizens need recourse, to correct govt, at the ballot box. Elections need to be free and fair. Hand counted paper ballots by the people with full forensic audits and recounts of every election are the term limits we desire. Election finance has turned in to a "pay to play" system that shits on the American people. America First. Stop sending U S funds to other countries. Hold mockingbird media accountable. De fund the CIA. Break monopolies. No foreign ownership of real estate or business in United States. Stop online gambling. Stop online and offline pornography. Roll back 5G for public health. Address mercury, plastic and toxin pollution. America should be energy independent. No govt mandates on battery powered vehicles which make us China dependent. Are billions of dollars being transferred to Elon Musk through DOD contracts? Kash Patel stated that Elon Musk is DOD's largest contractor. As a government contractor, Elon Musk has money left over to buy twitter, privately? With overpaid tax dollars for DOD contracts? Did Nancy Pelosi's husband buy 2.2 million in Tesla stock? Pelosi ownership of Tesla stock would influence legislation to stop oil production in favor of battery powered, Musk Tesla. Is Elon Musk a front man for the DOD? Take away DOD's checkbook. 1st generation immigrant Elon Musk should return DOD contract payments to the American people. Stop hand over fist theft of America.
Noah. Noah trusted God. Noah obeyed God. Obeying God did not make Noah popular. Noah was a critical thinker. Here is the critical race truth : We are descendants of Noah. Noah's Ark is located at 1 Ark Encounter Drive, Williamstown, Kentucky 41097. Come to Kentucky. Get on the boat.
Jack Hinson's One-Man War by Lt. Col. Tom C. McKenney USMC retired, is a graduate of the University of Kentucky. I purchased my first copy at the the Jefferson Davis state historic site. I have lived in the isolated valleys of Kentucky - Tennessee border area for over 27 years. Jack Hinson navigated my Kentucky home area on a horse! The Scottish Americans were neutral and yet during military occupation, suffered greatly , during the civil war. Then, the federal government took their productive farm lands and communities to develop hydro electric power, in the 1930's. The worst plague of Kentucky Scottish was the government.
Representation for the benefit of constituents and voters. America first philosophy. Conservative values.

1976. The 200th year of our Nation, the United States of America's, founding. Dad & Mom took us on the historical tour of the eastern states to celebrate 1776. I began a bicentennial collection. I still have a George Washington "I can not tell a lie" Lucky Beer Can from our family reunion. I grew up in the town of Washington and am curator for LA Washington House (George Washington nephew) Paducah Ky. My favorite quilt exhibitions at the National Quilt Museum in "Quilt City USA" or Paducah Ky, are patriotic. I respect Confederate as well as Union memorials. History is very precious. People long to know our history, our heritage and our neighbors history and heritage. If any generation is NOT interested in true history and antiques and artifacts and monuments, please respectfully leave all of these reminders and items, safely accessable to "We the People", in tact for the future generations that will long for memories of their forefathers and the history of our country. In 1976, my family had no fear to be loaded in a family station wagon, reading the historic signs and hiking and walking through Virginia and Washington DC. It was a great vacation for three little kids and their parents. Lots of activity and walking and reading and listening to Dad. My Dad has served in the military and it was an opportunity for him to share an experience of service and pride in our country. We also had no air conditioning in the car. You might find it interesting that we could not afford to run air conditioning in our house, but turned it on for company!
My first job was babysitting and child care, for 7 years, until I turned 16.

America First. Parents should have 100% choice of curriculum. Parents and students should choose how school tax dollars are spent and where to spend them. More respect for students' schedules and material, organized for college degree completion at 18 years of age. Yes I said a teenager could achieve a college degree at 18 and live free of school with organized and formatted learning instead of time wasting. Taxes must be lowered. No sales tax on vehicles. No property tax on primary residence. No tax liens on primary residences. No dual citizenship. Government payroll reduced 40%. No corporate, out of district election donations. Election donations from registered and verified voters residing in the state, district, county, or parish of interest. Pro life zygote to natural deathI! Constitution needs to be respected. Open & conceal carry of weapons for personal protection. I would encourage current minor gun possession laws to include a minor, licensed driver, gun safety class graduate, to meet and benefit from conceal carry law inclusive of automatic monthly background check compliance. Sixteen year old teenagers become part of Kentucky's adult workforce, as well as precious family members. They deserve to protect themselves as they live, freely in society, without fear of criminals and foul play.
Term limits would not be necessary if "We the People" were voting and counting Hand Counted Paper Ballots. No machines. Our votes are being disenfranchised through cheater machines, online electronic poll books, thumb drive transfer of votes from tabulator to central networked machine, padded voter rolls and every which way from Sunday. The most important thing to the Kentucky SOS is that the voters or candidates, themselves, never count or see the actual vote. Just illegally purchase machines with out of county grant money by Facebook 501c3 donations, using upgraded windows 10 operating systems with a MIT verified back entry that will allow one person to change the vote throughout the nation and our voter rolls have been found on the dark web. Kentucky down ballot is being cheated, per Dr Douglas Frank, mathematician and physicist. Running for US Senate gives me statewide standing as a candidate and an eagle view of what is going on in the Kentucky House and Senate. Term limits is not the answer. Hand counted paper ballots is the people's term limits. Our system of government is set up to VOTE OUT politicians that are not in the citizens' best interest. Term limits would trigger swamp switch hitters. One swamp creature would be replaced by the nest swamp creature and the really good politician would be termed out. There are usually a few good politicians and the people could keep them, by voting. As in any work force, there are often a few incredible workers that show a special talent for the position that they are placed. With Hand Counted Paper Ballots and no machines, over time, we would develop a very wise and caring senate overall, if we kept the diamonds and replaced the "America Last", senators. Also, the senators would be serving "We the People", rather than the financier of the voting machines and ballot drop boxes. Term limits do not address the bloated government of career government employees and pensions that was allowed to grow so large
Equal representation of each state, having two senators. This gives the minority (lesser populated states) a voice in how they are governed. The senate is arranged, to offset the representation of the US House of Representatives. Similar to a subdivision of houses. No matter the family size, each house/ lot gets two votes in the HOA (home owner association).
No. Absolutely not. It is NOT beneficial for senators to have previous experience in government or politics. It is highly detrimental for senators to have previous experience in government or politics because they will have been groomed and leveraged and cheated and compromised by the swamp.
It is a sad state of affairs that the filibuster is necessary. Personally, I prefer less pontificating, in politics. In 2017, President Trump said, of his fellow Republicans, in the upper chamber, by preserving the filibuster. Republicans in the Senate will NEVER win if they don't go to a 51 vote majority NOW. They look like fools and are just wasting time...... — Donald J. Trump July 29, 2017. I could not agree with President Trump more about the wasting time and looking like fools part. When I hear a politician talk, I think, "Shut up. Give me that in writing. I know you are lying." ---Dr Valerie Lee Fredrick January 26, 2022. BUT the filibuster appears necessary in the current political climate because "We the People" are not voting hand counted, paper ballots, one day, in person, photo id, annual in person, photo id , citizenship validated, registration. Therefore and wherefore, I am considering 90/100 vote necessary to pass. No vote/ bill/ law should pass unless it gets an undergraduate grade of 90 or above. The American people do not need the senate passage of laws that reflect, the percentage vote of an "F" grade. America First policy should reflect "A" grade, 90%, or above. Congress looks like fools because they are. Experts' opine Congress to be duly selected, not duly elected. We would all be better off if congress had less power over "We the People". And if the law or budget etc, does not get an "A" grade vote , forget it. Quit sending our money, assets and military equipment to other countries. Police the United States borders rather than Ukrainian borders. Get rid of the filibuster and require a 90 percent vote. If the American people were rightfully able to run for office and be duly elected, Congress would not "look like fools" while passing "F" grade law, bills, policies and budgets.
Is the president that appointed them duly elected? Was Justice Bryer forced out by progressives, in order for the president to appoint a younger progressive? Does the appointee appear influenced by the the propaganda of the day? Was the president fair and impartial and non discriminatory in his choice? Is the appointee being used as a political pawn?

Maybe I could share with "other senators" my high school class with "Sister" on how to balance a check book, the definition of spendthrift and that their actions are causing pain and suffering to the lovely, beautiful people of the United States. I would strive to put voters over party and lobbyists. I would hope to find senators that have been elected by voters not selected by 501c3 ballot drop box stuffing and phantom voters. With the senators that love the American people, we can roll back taxes, encourage fiscal policy so that banks would better interest bearing, insured, deposit accounts. God would be put back in schools. The Bible would be returned to schools The Ten Commandments would be posted. America would be blessed to espouse Christian values in schools and offer atheist exemptions, rather than collecting taxes from Christians to run atheist schools, offering religious exemptions. Until the votes of "We the People" are truly being counted by "We the People", America will suffer at the hands of selected rather than elected officials, with "F" grade laws.
Compromise is never "necessary". Compromise is "desirable" for policy making when a lobbyist, gift or graft make it so? Too often, laws and court decisions are compromised. Have you ever listened to the Supreme Court? Their discussions as to the case they are deciding are "off". They talk like wackadoodles. Let me explain. You are an individual. You have God given, inalienable rights. LegalDictionary.net definition, "Inalienable rights supersede governmental laws and cultural norms. These natural rights include the right to think for oneself, the right to life, and the right to self-defense, and they remain through every human's lifetime. Legal rights, on the other hand, are those created, acknowledged, and protected by a government." When you go to the Supreme Court for relief from a threat to your rights and well being, suddenly they are having wackadoodle speak and are no longer deciding what is best for you, but for every other person that will come after you and what type of legal precedence will be set. A family could not function this way. This is not protecting individual rights to the pursuit of life, liberty and happiness. This is about over Lords controlling the Universe. The fate of the innocent lives should never have been "ruled" by the "Supreme Court Judges". This is too much power in the hands of a few. Why should it matter if the justices are liberal or conservative. It is a known fact that people in power, abuse people not in power. How come the Supreme Court does not sign decisions? Who is making the decisions? Evidently compromise is necessary for babies ! Home of the Free? What person, would use their freedom to kill babies? What person should stay free if they kill babies? Since life is an inalienable right, why is the Supreme Court ruling against it?
