Val Montgomery (Democratic Party) ran for election to the Illinois House of Representatives to represent District 41. Montgomery lost in the general election on November 6, 2018.

A judge ruled on September 19, 2018, that Montgomery had incorrectly filed for office in the 41st house district because the address listed in her petition sheets is part of the 49th house district. The mistake was due to the DuPage County Election Commission incorrectly entering Montgomery's residence in the 41st house district. As of October 26, 2018, Montgomery was listed as an active candidate on the state board of elections website. Her name still appeared on the ballot.[1][2][3]

Candidate Connection

Valerie Montgomery participated in Ballotpedia's candidate survey on April 3, 2018. The survey questions appear in bold, and Valerie Montgomery's responses follow below.[7]

What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

1) Robust funding of public education that doesn't rely heavily on local property taxes

2) Championing women's rights
3) Protecting our healthcare and social services[5][6]

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about? Why?

I am passionate about restoring the social services safety net that has been shredded under our Republican governor. I have an autistic son who has had services reduced and eliminated under this governor. When social services are reduced by the state, they affect everyone when they require more local funding. I am a co-founder of Women's March Naperville and I will be a champion of women's rights in Springfield. Finally, I support a robust funding of public education in Illinois and I also want to see the higher education funding, including MAP grants, restored to its previous levels. I will use my background as an Accountant to be fiscally prudent in Springfield.Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; invalid names, e.g. too many[6]
