Smith ran for election to the Allendale County Probate Court.
Primary: She was successful in the Democratic primary on June 10, 2014, receiving 26.0 percent of the vote. She competed against Duncan Keith Smith, Katrina Williams and Henry Youmans, Jr..
Runoff: Valaree Smith lost the Democratic primary runoff to Duncan Keith Smith with 49.9% of the vote on June 24. Initial results showed a three-vote difference.
