Valde Garcia
Valde Garcia was a Republican member of the Michigan State Senate from 2001 to January 1, 2011. Garcia was the first Hispanic to ever be elected into the Michigan Senate. Garcia was elected to the Michigan Senate in 2001 and was re-elected to the Michigan Senate in 2002 and 2006.
Garcia has had extensive political experience before joining the Michigan Legislature. Garcia started his career as a Legislative Aide former State Senator Harmon Cropsey in 1990 before joining the US Army on active duty in 1991 during Operation Desert Storm. After returning from active duty, Garcia was Chief of Staff former State Senators Doug Carl and Mike Rogers from 1992 to 1995. Garcia was a private school teacher from 1995 to 1997 before joining the National Federation of Independent Businesses as Territory manager from 1997 till his election to the Michigan House of Representatives in 1998.

On November 7, 2006, Garcia ran for District 22 of the Michigan State Senate, beating Donna Anderson and Michael Nikitin.[4]
