Valentino T. Sammarco was a judge for the Dutchess County Family Court in New York. He was appointed to this position on May 23, 2003. The following year, he was elected to a full term that ended in 2013.[1][2] He also served as an acting justice of the Dutchess County Supreme Court.[3]

Biography and Education

Sammarco received his B.S. from the West Point Military Academy in 1965. He then served in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Army Reserve until he received his J.D. from the Albany School of Law in 1974.[1][2]

Career

Sammarco began his legal career in 1975 as an associate attorney of the law firm of Gilday and Morrow. In 1977, he became a senior deputy public defender for Dutchess County. He worked in that capacity until 1981, when he returned to the private practice to work as an associate attorney at the Law Office of Bernard Kessler until 1998. From 1998 to 2000, he ran his own law firm as a sole practitioner. He then worked as a partner at the Law Office of Steiman and Sammarco until his judicial appointment in 2003. While working as a private practice lawyer, he also served as a town justice of the Hyde Park Town Court from 1985 to 2003. In 2003, he was appointed to the family court bench.[1]
