Biography
Valerie Amezcua was born in Orange, California. She graduated from the University of La Verne in 2021.[4] She worked as a supervising probation officer for the Orange County Probation Department from 1986 to 2017.[5][6] She has been affiliated with NHBWA, SCA, OCTA, and SCAG.[4]

The election in Santa Ana Unified featured two seats up for general election on November 4, 2014. There was no primary election.
John Palacio was the only incumbent running for re-election. Palacio and Valerie Amezcua won the two available seats by defeating challengers Everlena Oliver, Cecilia Aguinaga, Shuntele Andrews, Rico Rodriguez, Angie Rosario Cano and Mike Dalati.

Funding
The Orange County Registrar of Voters does not publish and freely disclose school board candidate campaign finance reports that were filed by paper in their office. Ballotpedia staffers directly requested this information, but the municipal office refused those requests to make that information public.
