Valerie McKitrick was a candidate for an at-large seat on the Akron Public Schools Board of Education in Ohio. The general election was held on November 3, 2015.[1] Valerie McKitrick lost the general election on November 3, 2015.

McKitrick is a teacher with over 21 years of experience. She graduated from the University of Akron with a bachelor's degree in French and education. She continued at the same school and earned a master's degree in education.[2]

Opposition

Four of the seven seats on the Akron Public Schools Board of Education were up for election on November 3, 2015. Three of the seats up for election were for regular four-year terms. The fourth seat was on the ballot for a special two-year term.

Incumbents Tim Miller and Curtis Walker Sr. won re-election to the board. John Robert Otterman filled the other four-year term seat.[3]

Incumbent Patrick Bravo, along with candidates Summer Hall, Valerie McKitrick, Garth Starks and Ernie Tarle, were defeated in the election.[4][5]

Debbie Walsh defeated Pete Nischt for the seat with a two-year term. The unexpired term on the board was created following the resignation of member Dave Lombardi, who was appointed to a municipal judgeship. Jason Haas, a former member of the board, was appointed to fill the position until the election could be held. Haas stated at the time of his appointment that he did not intend to run in the special election for the remainder of the term.[6]
