What would be your top three priorities, if elected?
1. Universal healthcare (state-based Medicare for All) 2. Full funding for education (especially early education) 3. Local economies
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
I'm a middle school teacher, so my passion is helping students obtain the best education possible. These days, many parents/guardians do not have the time or ability to read to their youngsters. Therefore, in order to give all kids the best chance possible at a high level of literacy, I believe that we need to make substantial investments in early education.
Who do you look up to? Whose example would you like to follow, and why?
I admire the determination and plain-spoken approach of Bernie Sanders. Bernie cares about the well-being of working families, and I agree many of his stances on issues.
What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?
Above all, an elected official should stand firm in the face of lobbyists, and not become financially beholden to any special interests.
Do you believe that it’s beneficial for state legislators to have previous experience in government or politics?
It's certainly beneficial for candidates to have previous experience in government or politics. That being said, I am a strong believer that we need more scientists, teachers, and blue collar union workers to run for office.
