Vanessa Hickman was the Arizona Commissioner of Lands from 2012–2015. Hickman was appointed to the position in November 2012 by then-Governor Jan Brewer (R).[1] She stepped down in January 2015 to take a job at Arizona State University.[2] She was succeeded by Lisa Atkins in April 2015.[3][4]

Hickman, an attorney by trade, became a member of the State Bar of Arizona in 2004. She practiced law with a number of firms including Withey Morris, PLC, Wilenchik & Barness, P.C. and Wilcon & Wilcox, P.C. Hickman began serving in Gov. Jan Brewer's administration in May 2009. In October 2009, she was appointed as Arizona Deputy State Land Commissioner and became head of the department in 2012.[5]
