Vanessa Ruiz is senior judge on the District of Columbia Court of Appeals. She retired from active service on the court on August 31, 2011.[1][2][3]
Senior status
Following her rerirement, Ruiz requested senior status on the DC Court of Appeals. Her request was granted by the District of Columbia Commission on Judicial Disabilities and Tenure as of March 2012.[4]
Education
Ruiz received an undergraduate degree from Wellesly College in 1972 and a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center in 1975.[3]
Career
Ruiz spent much of her legal career in private practice. She also worked as in-house Senior Counsel at Sears World Trade, Inc. In 1991, Ruiz joined the Office of Corporation Counsel for the District of Columbia, where she served until joining the court in 1994.[3]
