I am Dr. VERA DANIELS, Psychologist; Small Business Owner; former Community Education Council; Professor; NAACP, Democratic Club, JCAL, Historic Grace Episcopal Church Member... MOST IMPORTANTLY, a HOMEOWNER and COMMUNITY ADVOCATE of southeastern Queens, that is there when it matters. I LEARN, LISTEN, and pursue RESULTS. “Race” does not matter for a system to work. There are nefarious political activities that include a blatant disregard for the community on decisions regarding our “quality of life”, while pandering to endorsers. These unscienciouable actions have influenced my run for office. It is imperative that economic and social injustices are eradicated. “We need leaders, not in love with money but in love with JUSTICE. We need leaders not in love with publicity but in love with HUMANITY.” – Martin Luther King. Advocacy is deeply rooted in my spiritual DNA to contribute to society and my community. This campaign promises to break away from the typical political norms. My proven dedication, values, and beliefs shape my actions to advocate for those around me and "work hard" towards creating a more just and equitable environment for a better future for all. Every community deserves a VOICE that is heard – RESPECTED and kept informed. I promise to do just that. I pledge to continue to LISTEN, be TRANSPARENT and WORK HARD for CONSTITUENTS. I have the COURAGE, INTEGRITY, and STRENGTH to represent our community ALL THE TIME, NOT JUST ELECTION TIME!!
  • HIGH FOOD COST! Every community deserves effective representation, rather than pandering to endorsers. Our community remains disenfranchised and marginalized, as citizens choose between feeding their family and paying rent/mortgage. The economy makes it challenging with a need for a lifeline, like increased compensation! The data shows average monthly grocery bill is at $486 - due to high cost of living; assumed delivery difficulties; fees from credit card companies; inflation; profit margins, etc. I pledge to hold entities accountable for unfair practices like price gouging; help promote agriculture industry competition; seek to ensure the gov't increase food assistance for low-income; strengthen supply chains to lower food prices.
  • AFFORDABLE RESIDENTIAL/COMMERCIAL/ HOMEOWNERSHIP is scarce! Reducing affordable rentals shortage, prevents loss of existing affordable housing. I pledge to hold developers and the govt accountable in making housing “truly” affordable by assisting in abolishing urban growth boundaries and other restrictions; help slow inflation, rising insurance, taxes; address the migrant crisis; help those who truly can’t afford housing using vouchers, rather than subsidies that primarily enrich developers, seek Low-Income Tax Credit Program/federal Housing Choice Vouchers-subsidizing private rental housing; improve Low-income Housing Tax Credit Program; work to remove barriers to homeownership with Down-payment assistance for first-time homebuyers, etc.
  • HEALTH and SAFETY emerges as critical elements influencing the quality of life for New Yorkers. Access to affordable and quality healthcare is increasingly out of reach for working families, veterans, and seniors. This poses significant risks to public health and safety, particularly in terms of mental well-being. We can enhance healthcare access through initiatives for affordable mental health services; maximize effectiveness of community outreach programs through milestone evaluations; address health disparities with targeted strategies; invest in preventive healthcare; improve access to quality care in underserved neighborhoods; focus on social determinants of health like housing insecurity and poverty for a safer community.
I have a deep personal commitment to PUBLIC POLICY, driven by the desire to improve conditions in my community. My focus is on creating policies that prioritize access to quality healthcare, genuinely affordable housing, equitable and fair education, infrastructure issues like roads and flooding, job training programs, and addressing social determinants of health, including transportation and food security. I believe in directing funding towards community health centers, education, workforce development initiatives, programs that encourage community engagement, and empowering residents to advocate for their own needs. Through these efforts, we can foster a stronger, healthier quality of life within our community for everyone.
One of my most significant strengths is my commitment to LISTEN, LEARN, and ACT in pursuit of meaningful RESULTS for my community. I truly recognize that I don’t have all the answers, however I approach challenges with determination and a focus that leaves little room for regret or hesitation. My success is guided by the intensity of my efforts and my willingness to adapt and innovate to enhance outcomes. I refuse to let fear impede my progress; instead, I welcome challenges and view setbacks as opportunities for growth.

As a Psychologist, my career has been dedicated to uplifting and empowering others, championing fairness and equity within my community, and much more. I have consistently been present during crucial moments, sharing in both the struggles and victories of those around me. My experiences have given me a deep understanding of the needs and aspirations of my community. I take great pride in my contributions, and I believe that these qualities will further guide my effectiveness and impactfulness for successful outcomes as an officeholder.
I firmly believe that the primary duty of a New York City Council member is to represent their constituents with honesty and dedication. This requires genuinely listening to their concerns and taking action to achieve “their” goals. Remembering that TRUST and TRANSPARENCY are essential in this role, along with a strong commitment to improving the quality of life for residents is paramount. Council members should work tirelessly to shape a vision for both the community and the city by overseeing the functions and effectiveness of city agencies, making land use decisions, approving the city budget, and working alongside the mayor in the governance of New York City. In essence, I believe that the key responsibility of a City Council member lies in crafting policies, making decisions, and choices that meaningfully enhance the well-being of the communities they serve.
I am honored to have the endorsement of my community. I am committed to continuously work and advocate on behalf of my community.
