Vernice S. Trease

Vernice S. Trease is a Utah Third Judicial District judge for Salt Lake County for the Salt Lake City District Court.[1] She was appointed to this position in February 2007 by Gov. Jon Huntsman.[2]
Trease won a retention election on November 8, 2016.[3]
Biography
Trease received her B.A. in international relations from Lewis and Clark College. She went on to receive her J.D. from the University of Utah College of Law in 1988.[2] Trease served as a public defender attorney for the Salt Lake Legal Defender Association. During this time, she was a senior trial attorney, capital qualified attorney, team leader, and assistant director of an office of over 60 lawyers. She also worked for Utah Legal Services.[2]

Utah held retention elections for local judicial offices on November 8, 2016. The filing deadline for sitting judges seeking retention was April 15, 2016. Vernice S. Trease was retained in the Utah 3rd District Court (Trease Seat) election with 75.74 percent of the vote. [3]
